How to Submit your website to Search Engines
The final step in making your new website public is to submit it to search engines. Submission is necessary because sites like Google or Yahoo will not know your website exists unless you tell them. The good news is that submission is free! In this section of the Getting Started Guide we will show you how to get your site listed on search engines.
Free Submission
The easiest way to find information on the web is to use search engines. In order for a search engine to list your site, you must let them know that you exist. Until you submit your site, you will not show up in Yahoo or Google.
We've collected links that will allow you to list your site on 4 of the most popular search engines. Just follow the links below to submit your site for free:
- Submit to Google
- Submit to Yahoo
- Submit to MSN
- AOL -- If you have submitted your site to Google, it will automatically be included in AOL search.
These links account for the most popular search engines on the web.
Fee-based Submission
Another option for submitting sites to search engines is to pay for the listings. This can be done in two ways:
- Paying for Submission: these companies will charge a yearly fee to submit your site to scores of websites every year. To find out more information on this, simply go to a search engine and type in "submit url".
- Search Advertising: you can pay Yahoo, Google, Overture and others to have your site listed at the top of their listings. These are usually listed on a pay-per-click option. Click on the links below to find more information about these fee-based programs:
