FTP over SSL/TLS

In an effort to secure your website, we only support FTP over the SSL Protocol.

Standard FTP does NOT encrypt the data and control connections. This means that passwords are transmitted in clear text and may be intercepted by a network sniffer, or a man-in-the-middle attack.

In order to solve this issue, we only allow connections using "FTP over SSL/TLS" Almost every major FTP client will support this method.

Listed below are a few FTP clients that you can use.

Mac OS: Cyberduck

A great FTP client on the Mac OS is Cyberduck.  This FTP client may be downloaded for free from Cyberduck's website at http://cyberduck.ch/

To use Cyberduck to connect via FTP over the SSL Protocol, you will want to select "FTPS (FTP/SSL)" when setting up the FTP settings.  Then type in the domain name we gave you with your username and password.  The screen should look something like the following.

When you connect, it may ask you to confirm the SSL Certification.  You can trust the certificate from our FTP server.

Windows OS: WinSCP

A great FTP client on the Windows OS is WinSCP. This FTP client may be downloaded for free from WinSCP's website at http://winscp.net.

NOTE: You must use version 4.2.2 or higher.

To use WinSCP to connect via FTP over the SSL Protocol, you will want to select the "File Protocol" of "FTP" and then select "SSL Explicit Encryption" when setting up the FTP settings. Then type in the domain name we gave you with your username and password. The screen should look something like the following.

Once that is complete, then check the "advanced options" checkbox on the left hand side. That will add a new "Connection" tab. Click on that "Connection" tab and check the "Passive Mode" box. Now you can connect.
